A suspected car thief was shot and killed in Maple Valley early Tuesday morning.
Shortly after midnight a call was placed to 911 in which the caller stated that someone was attempting to steal a car in the 21800 block of Southeast 236th Place near Wax Road in Maple Valley, according to information provided by the King County Sheriff’s Office.
The caller then reported that shots were fired.
When deputies arrived at the scene they found the suspect dead next to a car.
Deputies learned the 27-year-old man and his girlfriend arrived in a stolen Honda Civic with stolen license plates.
The man allegedly broke into a white Toyota pick-up while the woman waited in the driver’s seat of the Honda.
The owner of the truck was taking his dog outside for a walk when he allegedly found the man inside the truck. The owner then reportedly yelled at the suspect who proceeded to produce a 45 caliber handgun. The owner then reportedly produced a 9 millimeter handgun and multiple shots were fired.
The suspect was shot at least once while the owner and the female were uninjured. The woman was taken into custody on an outstanding burglary warrant and the truck owner was detained and released.
The woman was booked on her warrant and may face additional charges.
Once the investigation is complete the case will be sent to the prosecutor for review and consideration of charges against the female suspect and the truck owner.
