Mountain View Fire and Rescue was called to a residential fire on SE Covington Sawyer Road around 8:22 p.m. on Christmas Eve. When the first units arrived on scene they found the house was about fifty percent involved in flames with a group of people standing outside.

The firefighters immediately started spraying water from outside the structure to try and control the fire. Firefighters from Kent Regional Fire Authority and Maple Valley Fire also assisted with the fire and helped us keep it under control.

There were no injuries caused by the fire but Red Cross was called to assist with the two people that rented the home. The residents also lost two dogs in the fire. The King County Fire Investigator has not given a cause or estimated amount of loss due to this fire.

The fire department later learned that the residents of the house came home to find their home on fire. They immediately tried to access the house to get two dogs from the home but they were unable to enter due to the smoke, heat, and flames. Firefighters stayed at the house overnight for overhaul, then waited till daylight to try and recover the dogs. Unfortunately they were only able to find one dog due to all the debris in the home. Fire personnel contacted 1-800-BoardUp to assist with securing the house until investigators, the insurance company, and residents were able to come back to the location.
