Hollywood Harbor, voted Emerald Downs’ Top Juvenile last year, is out of Sunday’s Auburn Handicap with changes to his left front suspensory ligament, trainer Chris Stenslie said.
Stenslie said she isn’t sure what caused the problem, but speculated the gelding might have aggravated the suspensory in a workout last Sunday at Emerald Downs.
“I’m just sick because he was training so good,” Stenslie said, an Enumclaw resident who earned her first three stakes wins as a trainer last summer with Hollywood Harbor. “But we’ll give him all the time he needs, and then hope to have a good 4-year-old next year.”
A procedure, which takes stem cells from the hip and injects them into the suspensory, was performed Wednesday, and the long-term prognosis is good for Hollywood Harbor. Nevertheless, Stenslie said her star gelding would be sidelined from six months to a year.
A Washington-bred by Harbor the Gold-Miss Slewette, Hollywood Harbor has a 3-0-1 record in five starts and earnings of $70,501 for owners Stenslie and Jody Peetz. In 2009, he won the Strong Ruler, Premio Esmeralda and WTBA Lads and was voted Top Juvenile Male.
