Soos Creek Water & Sewer District’s contractor will be wrapping up construction of the sewer main in SE 272nd Street shortly. Full road reopening is expected by the end of April. Please note that given spring weather conditions there may be delays for paving; it is weather dependent.
A big thank you to the residents and businesses for their patience while this very important project disrupts the community.
This portion of the project is to connect the sewer mains on both the north and south sides of SE 272nd Street. The sewer installation includes two pipes, one gravity line that flows south to the new Lift Station 46 site, and one force main that conveys the sewage from the Lift Station north to the existing line in SE 156th Place. The construction in this area is complicated. There are a number of vital utilities above where the sewer lines will be installed and in order to keep these in service, extra care is taken to support these utilities high above the trench during construction. The trench is very deep, almost 30 feet below the surface of the roadway, so wood lagging and metal bracing are used to shore up the sides and keep the soil stable. Because the groundwater is 4 feet below the surface, the trench must be dewatered during construction to keep workers safe. The discharge water is dispersed into Little Soos Creek to keep the trench dry 24 hours a day until construction is complete.
This project is just one portion of the overall Lift Station No. 46 Regional Sewer Conveyance Project.
