Garage sale supports youth group, missions
Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church’s youth group will host a garage sale Sept. 12-13, with proceeds supporting its activities and mission trips in the coming year.
The church is at 23855 SE. 216th St. in Maple Valley. The sale is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days.
The youth group is accepting donations of items to be sold. They can be dropped off at the church next Monday through Thursday, between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Donations should be in good condition, as most items that aren’t sold will be donated to a local charity, a church spokeswoman said.
Shepherd of the Valley, which started in 1972, has sent its youth group members on mission trips to Mexico and California.
This summer, eight high school members hosted a vacation Bible school and helped with repairs on the Blackfeet Indian Reservation in Montana.

‘Relief’ comes in gas buy-down
Victory Life Center will stage a gas buy-down Sept. 13 at a Kent gas station.
From 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. at the Chevron station at Central Avenue and James Street, gas customers will receive a discount of 20 cents per gallon, with a buy-down maximum of 20 gallons per vehicle.
“It’s our way of introducing ourselves to the community and providing some token relief to high gasoline costs,” said Rich Dover, Victory’s outreach pastor. “We believe it is time for the church to go outside of the church walls and make a positive impact in the local community.”
