Support Alliance Bible Church’s Quizzing program in Covington | Letter

When I moved to Maple Valley three years ago, I felt lost. I had lived in the same town my whole life, now to be uprooted due to my parents’ divorce, and plunked down in what felt to be the end of the earth. How could I find a niche in this place?

Why raise funds for Alliance Bible Church’s Bible Quizzing program?

When I moved to Maple Valley three years ago, I felt lost. I had lived in the same town my whole life, now to be uprooted due to my parents’ divorce, and plunked down in what felt to be the end of the earth. How could I find a niche in this place?

The answer came in the form of Alliance Bible Church’s youth program. A homeschooler at the time, the only major social life I experienced was through Bible Quizzing. Quizzing had always been at the center of my life, providing me healthy interactions with other kids that helped me to branch out and thrive, as well as challenges that helped motivate me to new heights.

I loved the community, the competition, the excitement, the hard work. I loved the dedication and discipline. Prior to our coming to Maple Valley I had been an active participant in the Quizzing program at May Valley Alliance Church for two years, but when their team evaporated, I’d had to find a new church to continue my quizzing career. ABC became that church.

I remember the first night I came to practice — I was nervous because I didn’t know any of the kids, but throughout my first few weeks of getting to know them, I experienced the most welcoming atmosphere from the friendliest people I have ever met.

They embraced my sister and I with love and acceptance, and grafted us into their family. Here we found healing, friendship, unconditional love. The people we met through ABC’s youth program are now our best and closest friends, and we couldn’t be more content.

I strongly believe in the power of the Bible Quizzing program, specifically that of Alliance Bible Church, to impact lives. Not only do the quizzers themselves benefit from the rigor and discipline that are integral elements of the program, but everyone around them is touched by their wisdom and discipline as well. Memorization of large portions of Biblical material presents a great challenge, but even greater reward.

Some vital qualities and assets that I have gained as a result of the quizzing program are: the ability to memorize quickly and well, the ability to lead, mentor and advise, strategic thinking, self-discipline, and lasting friendships.

Bible Quizzing has, through the years, built in me perseverence and, ultimately, character. Alliance Bible Church has made it possible for me to continue this wonderful sport, and I wouldn’t trade it for anything. If there’s any program that deserves your monetary investment and support, it is ABC’s Bible Quizzing program, because when you invest in Quizzing, you invest in the next generation of dedicated, hardworking individuals ready to face the world with confidence and wisdom.

A craft bazaar to fund the Quizzing program is set for 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday at Alliance Bible Church, 19320 S.E .240th Street, Covington.
