The City of Maple Valley is under a state of emergency beginning Monday after Mayor Sean P. Kelly signed a proclamation on Friday night, March 13.

A press release sent by the city outlines measures the city is taking to prevent the spread of COVID-19. There are over 400 cases of COVID-19, caused by the novel coronavirus, in King County. Over 30 people have died of the disease. The city will implement actions outlined by the mayor’s office starting at 5 p.m. on Monday, March 16.

The Maple Valley City Hall will be closed to the public other than by appointment starting Tuesday, March 17 until March 31, and potentially longer. Appointments for permits, planned drop-offs, peddlers licenses, filing claims for damages, delivers and other necessary activities can be made by calling 422-413-8800.

The Lake Wilderness Lodge is closed to the public until April 26. All recreation programs and rentals (including fields) will be canceled through April 26. Parks and trails will remain open, residents are advised to follow social distancing guidelines placed by the state. The Lake Wilderness Golf Course will remain open as it is “outside and small groups are not in close contact,” the city press release states. The Clubhouse will be available for take-out orders during limited hours.

The Legacy Site Groundbreaking event scheduled for this week is also canceled, but the city plans to announce a future celebration of the project on a future date.

“The city will continue our Emergency Operations Center activation at Level 3 (to be located at city hall) to develop virtual attendance options for future meetings in order to facilitate continuity of government,” the press release states. “We encourage the community, our staff and council not to attend meetings of large groups and when in meetings to maintain social distancing limits following Public Health and CDC guidelines for their safety and the safety of others.”
