A cyclist was hit by a car in Covington and was airlifted to the hospital with critical conditions, blocking traffic near Wax Road during rush hour.
He later died at the hospital from his injuries. Police are still searching for the driver.
According to the King County Sheriff’s Office PIO Twitter account, deputies were on scene of a hit and run collision, vehicle versus bicycle, around 6 p.m. at the 18200 block of Southeast Wax Road.
“Bicycle rider critical condition,” KCSO tweeted. “Vehicle fled, no info on that vehicle yet.”

Major Accident Response and Reconstruction Detectives were en route to the scene to investigate around 6:30 p.m. The road was closed and traffic was detoured during the investigation.
KCSO tweeted the victim had died at 8:12 p.m. and requested the public’s help if they had any information on the driver.
“Sadly the bike rider has died,” the tweet stated. “We have no suspect vehicle description at this time.”
Detectives are asking for anyone with information or who may have saw a vehicle flee the scene to call 911 or KCSO non-emergency at 206/296-3311.
