A garden thief or thieves is swiping trees, bushes and other plants from the City of Maple Valley, including areas like roundabouts and local parks.
According to a Facebook post from the city on Monday, Aug. 12, multiple plants and a large cedar tree was taken from the landscape at the roundabout on Southeast Tahoma Way and Summit Park Way Southeast.
“It is the latest in a string of landscape thefts to take place on city-owned property,” the Facebook post states. “Earlier this year plants were also stolen from Lake Wilderness Park and the Lake Wilderness Arboretum.”
The suspect(s) who took the tree and plants from the roundabout left behind a trail of dirt and damaged plants. The estimated cost of the plants, and the damage to the landscape, may cost Maple Valley around $600, according to the post.
The city filed a report with the Maple Valley Police Department, but city leaders are hoping residents with information will come forward to help find the suspects. The city suspects the thieves have stolen the plants and replanted them somewhere else.
Anyone with information or clues about where the missing shrubbery is should call the Maple Valley Police Department at 425-413-5158 or email them at policeinfo@maplevalley.wa.gov.
