Sophomore Jordyn Jenkins scored 16 points and grabbed 11 rebounds as Kentridge captured fourth place at the 4A Hardwood Classic with a 44-34 victory over Kentlake in the Tacoma Dome last Saturday.
The loss to Kentridge landed the Falcons as No. 6 in state.
The Chargers (26-3) pulled away from the Falcons (21-9) in the second half of their trophy-round game in the state tournament.
The No. 3 Chargers, who were upset by Woodinville in an overtime quarterfinal battle Thursday, finished second in state losing to Central Valley 70-39 Saturday.
Kentridge, who defeated Kentlake 55-44 in last year’s state quarterfinals, beat the Falcons twice again this past regular season — 38-33 on Dec. 16 and 50-38 on Jan. 19.
Sophomore guard Dayla Ballena scored 10 points and distributed three assists, and Morgan Gary had nine points and 11 rebounds.
Aniston Denckla’s 10 points led the Falcons.
Kentridge trailed 21-16 at the half before going on a 17-7 run in the third quarter to take a 33-28 lead entering the fourth quarter. Kentridge held Kentlake to five points in the final period.
Other State Games
Kentlake won a loser out game Friday by one, 49-48 over University.
This win advanced the girls into its state seeding game Saturday.
Aniston Denckla and Aolani Talamaivao-Calderon had a team high 14 points.
Before beating University, the Falcons fell to Central Valley 61-16.
The Falcons were held scoreless in the second half of Thursday’s second round game.
Aniston Denckla scored 11 points and Anna Kruse scored the other five points for the Falcons.
Round one of the Hardwood Classic opened Wednesday with Kentlake beating Lake Stevens 57-42.
The high scoring Falcon in Wednesday’s game was Talamaivao-Calderon who scored 21.
Kentlake advanced to the classic by winning its regional game 42-25 over Rogers.
Kentridge
Jenkins scored a game-high 23 points and grabbed seven rebounds as the Chargers pulled away from Camas in the second half of their elimination-round game to deliver a 60-44 win last Friday.
Guard Tresai McCarver scored 13 points and distributed five assists, and 6-foot-4-inch junior forward Jaquaya Miller finished with 10 points, six rebounds and four steals for Kentridge, which shot nearly 52 percent from the field for the game.
Gary had eight points, five rebounds and three assists. Dayla Ballena scored six points and had three steals.
Courtney Clemmer paced the Papersmakers (17-10) with 14 points.
Kentridge trailed 29-23 at the half before going on a 23-11 run in the third quarter to grab 46-40 lead entering the fourth quarter. Kentridge held Camas to four points in the final period.
