Forget-Me-Not Fundraiser

The annual Forget-Me-Not Flower charity fundraiser will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on May 28 at the Covington Fred Meyer.

Every year, the members of the Disabled Americans Veterans, Chapter A-One #33 from Kent, present their annual charity event. All charitable donation proceeds go to help Disabled American Veterans, their widows and orphans.

Choir celebrates 10th season

Starting at 3 p.m. on May 20 at the New Hope Presbyterian Church in Kent, the Rainier Youth Choirs (RYC) will celebrate the end of their 10th season with a final concert. The RYC develops talents of singers between the ages of 8 to 18 from Auburn, Covington, Des Moines, Federal Way, Kent, Renton Maple Valley and Issaquah.

They perform art songs, folk songs, blues, ethnic styles and contemporary music. Tickets for the concert if purchased in advance are $15 for adults, $12 for students/seniors and $5 for children younger than 12. Tickets at the door are $18, $15 and $5.

Sophomores from Tahoma High School, Sophia Heinz and Allie Orozco, will perform their recent State Ensemble Contest winning “Flower Duet” from Leo Delibes opera, Lakme. This will also be the final performance for graduating senior from Tahoma High School, Megan Rickey.

Applications to be part of the Maple Valley Days Parade are now being accepted.

The step off is at 10 a.m. on June 10. There is no fee to be in the parade. It is a great way to advertise for your business, organization, show community spirit or just have fun entertaining the crowd.

Concert for a cause

An Evening of Destiny concert and auction will run from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday, May 20.

Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and tickets are $50.

Proceeds from the event will go to Destiny House, for the development of a national shelter facility for survivors of sex trafficking, according to a media release.

The event will take place at A Matter of Style at 21327 Renton-Maple Valley Highway, Maple Valley.

New commissioner

Merle Reeder was appointed to be a commissioner for the Soos Creek Water & Sewer District. Reeder took over his role April 19.

He will serve through December 31 and intends to run for election in November 2017, according to a media release.

Reeder is replacing Larry West, who died. West served as a Soos Creek commissioner since 2013.
