Nora Gitz of Maple Valley died Nov. 17, 2010 in Renton, Wash. She was born on Jan. 30, 1922 in Centralia, Wash. to Hilda and John Widenoja. She was raised in Rochester, Wash. where she attended Rochester High School. After graduation, she attended Seattle Business School and with her skills began working for the U.S. government in civil service shipping, receiving and administration. She worked in the civil service office in San Francisco and the Seal Beach Naval Weapon Station in Seal Beach, Calif. She married Harold Gitz, a career U.S. Marines Corps soldier from Louisiana. They made their home in New Orleans, La. for 45 years, before moving to Garden Grove Calif. Her husband died in April 1989 and she remained in Garden Grove until 1995, when she moved to Maple Valley to be closer to her grandchildren. Her hobbies included traveling, bowling, movies and reading. She especially enjoyed visiting with her grandchildren. She is survived by two daughters, Carolyn (Gitz) Gravelle and her husband Rene of Maple Valley and Dolores (Gitz) Harper of Huntington Beach, Calif. She is also survived by her sister Gertrude Allen of San Francisco, Calif., five grandchildren and one great granddaughter. A committal service will begin at 1:15 a.m. Monday, Nov. 29 at Tahoma National Cemetery, Covingon. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in her memory be made to a charity of your choice.
