Flood-risk reduction, restoration projects and related activities on the Cedar River will be among the discussion points at the fourth annual “I Love the Cedar River” community meeting and open house scheduled for Nov. 18 in Maple Valley.

The meeting, co-hosted by King County, King County Flood Control District and the Cedar River Council, is set for 6-8:30 p.m. at the Lake Wilderness Lodge, 22500 SE 248th St.

The open house and meeting will include presentations, a question-and-answer session and opportunities for residents to talk to a variety of people who are involved in managing the Cedar River. Meeting attendees will learn about the Cedar River Corridor Plan, which is a multi-objective planning effort to develop a strategy and action recommendations to reduce flood risks while improving fish and wildlife habitat.

Participants will also be able to learn more about two new tools available to the public that are related to the Cedar River – new mapping of channel migration along the river, and the new “flood level viewer” – an interactive map that demonstrates a variety of flood levels along the Cedar River to show potential flood conditions.Employees from several organizations will be available during the open house to discuss projects and answer questions, including: King County Flood Control District, King County Council, King County Department of Natural Resource and Parks, Cedar River Council, City of Renton, Forterra, Friends of the Cedar River Watershed, Lake Washington/Cedar/Sammamish Watershed (WRIA 8), Seattle Public Utilities and the U.S. Geological Survey.
