AJ Hostak of Maple Valley was honored by the Sammamish Rotary as Athlete of the Year at Eastside Catholic High School.
Hostak was a standout three-sport letter winner this year in football, wrestling and lacrosse. He was All Metro in football special teams and helped the team reach the state quarter-finals. Earlier in the season in a key game against O’Dea, Hostak blocked the potential game winning field goal in overtime and helped lead the Crusaders in their double overtime victory over the Irish and the Metro League championship.
Hostak was a four-time Metro League champion in wrestling and placed fifth in the state tournament at the state meet despite battling an injury the whole season. He was 31-2 (24 pins) this year and had a career record of 136-15 with 103 pins.
Hostak helped the Eastside Catholic lacrosse team to a second place finish in the state championship game. He served as an ASB class officer as well as participating in all the school plays. He passed on several wrestling offers and instead accepted an academic scholarship from Gonzaga University, where he will be attending school in the fall. He is the son of Phil and Leslie Hostak.
