If you looking for some leisure time, make a date to see the Maple Valley Creative Arts Council presentation of “Bride of Leisure Time with Leisure Time.”

The show will be on the stage at 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 8 at Maple Valley’s community theatre, 23220 Maple Valley Hwy. SE, Suite 15.

The show was written by playwright Jamie Gower and will be preformed by the Valley Center Stage actors from the Snoqualmie Valley area with music by the Cascade Jazz Ensemble, preforming as John Chmaj and the Chmajbees.

The production recalls the days of the 1930s radio programs.

It features the radio dramas “Healing Hospital” and “The Sneak in The Curse of the Golden Retriever,” with breaks for bizarre commercials and sports commentary.

According to Craig Ewing, who is co-director with Stephanie Merrow and the play’s announcer, Guy Fontana, the story is set in 1939, shortly after the airing of the “War of the Worlds” program (1938), directed and narrated by Orson Welles.

“It’s like an old-time radio show with a table full of all sorts of gadgets to make sound effects,” Ewing said. “It’s very funny. Humor is the main thing.”

The “Bride of Leisure Time with Leisure Time” is the fourth installment in the series written by Gower.

Ewing said all other performances of the show have been set at the Valley Center Stage in Snoqualmie.

“This is the first show Valley Center has ever done away from our home theater,” Ewing said.

Seating will be limited. The arts council suggests reserving seats early. A limited number may be available at the door.
