Upcoming Halloween events in Covington

The Covington Parks and Recreation Department is hosting several events Halloween weekend.

The first scheduled event is a Hallow Teen Dance from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 28 at Cedar Heights Middle School.

The dance will feature music, food, a costume contest and more.

Admission is $5 at the door.

This dance is for teens ages 12 to 15.

The remaining events are at the Covington Aquatic Center.

On Saturday, Oct. 29 there are two Spooky Swims.

The first is from 5 to 6:30 p.m. and the second session is 6:30 to 8 p.m.

These swims are family friendly and include swimming with the lights out in a glowing pool.

At the door admission is $11.25 or $9 for Covington residents.

The final event is on Halloween, Monday, Oct. 31 starting at 7 p.m. at the aquatic center.

The normal open swim and family swim will be turned into a spooky swim.

Normal admission rates apply.

November blood drive scheduled

The Cascade Regional Blood Services has scheduled a mobile blood drive for Tuesday, Nov. 15.

The drive runs from 3 to 7 p.m. in the parking lot of the Covington Safeway.

Successful golf tourney raises more than $20,000

On Oct. 13 at the Meridian Valley Country Club, more than $20,000 was raised for Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) research.

Tyler Markegard, owner of Maple Valley Energy Solutions, organized the golf tournament.

The tournament was in honor of Markegard’s friend, Neil Corbin.

Property taxes due soon

The deadline for property taxes is Monday, Oct. 31.

Any payments received after that date will face interest charges and penalties, according to a release from King County.

There are several ways for payments to be made.

Taxpayers can mail in their check or money order.

Cash should not be sent through the mail.

Payers can pay via eTax online at www.kingcounty.gov/propertytax.

In person at the Treasury Operations in the King County Administration Building in Seattle is another way for taxpayers to pay.

Increased patrols led to arrests

On Friday, a patrol emphasis in southeast King County led to two arrests of drivers under the influence.

Four deputies and one sergeant began the evening at 8 p.m. by stopping at 11 local businesses that serve alcohol, a release from the King County Sheriff ‘s Office said.

A 29 year old woman from Buckley was arrested around 11 p.m. Deputies saw her behind the wheel of her vehicle after driving it into a ditch.

The second arrest of the evening came around 1:30 a.m. Saturday when officers witnessed a car swerving in the eastbound lanes of SE 272nd Street.

The 40 year old woman from Auburn who was driving the vehicle was arrested for DUI.

The release stated both women had prior DUI arrests.

They were booked into the King County jail.

The release added that deputies were able to determine that neither driver was drinking at one of the 11 businesses that had been contacted prior to the patrols.

More emphasis patrols will be conducted throughout the county during the remainder of 2016.
