Kent School District selected as a Board of Distinction at 2011 Washington State School Director’s Association conference

Kent School District was selected as a Board of Distinction at the 2011 Washington State School Directors’ Association conference on Nov. 18.

Kent School District was selected as a Board of Distinction at the 2011 Washington State School Directors’ Association conference on Nov. 18.

In addition to Kent School District, 15 other districts were selected for the honor. School Board Director Karen DeBruler and Superintendent Dr. Edward Lee Vargas attended the conference and received the award.

The Board of Distinction honors school boards that demonstrate effective use of the Washington School Board Standards. The standards, developed and adopted by WSSDA in 2009, promote research-based governance practices that lead to high levels of student and district performance.

Standards of practice required for this state award include:

  • Ensuring school board and district transparency through a process that is open and accountable.
  • Employing and supporting quality teachers, administrators, and other staff and providing for their professional development.
  • Ensuring the board is accountable and open to the public, including seeking divergent perspectives in its decision making process.

Districts are selected for this award by an independent panel.
