Maple Valley City Council candidate reports yelling and swearing incident to police

Stanette Marie Rose, a candidate for Maple Valley City Council Position No. 6, reported to the police department a local developer began yelling and swearing at her in a Java! Java! coffee shop.

Stanette Marie Rose, a candidate for Maple Valley City Council Position No. 6, reported to the police department a local developer began yelling and swearing at her in a Java! Java! coffee shop.

According to a police report, Rose and a friend were meeting for coffee in the shop. Rose went to the barista to ask for water and saw the man, whom she recognized.

The police report stated she said hello and the man “immediately started yelling and swearing at her.” Rose said in the report the man kicked a chair in her direction, but the chair did hit her. She was not physically injured.

The report went on to state Rose returned to her seat after the confrontation.

In the report the officer stated while the, “tirade may have been aggressive or inappropriate, it did not rise to the level of criminal behavior and that he did have a right to exercise his freedom of speech.”

Rose said of the incident, “I’m disappointed when times are hard and when an election is happening and certain developers feel they can act out in this manner. It is disappointing.”
