UPDATE | Teenage boy pulled from Lake Wilderness dies at hospital Tuesday

Maple Valley Fire and Life Safety responded to a 911 call at 4:38 p.m. June 23 about a teenage boy who disappeared while swimming in Lake Wilderness with friends at a private beach in the 25300 block of 232nd Avenue Southeast.

A teen that was pulled from Lake Wilderness Tuesday afternoon died at Harborview Medical Center late that night, according to the hospital’s spokesperson.

Maple Valley Fire and Life Safety responded to a 911 call at 4:38 p.m. June 23 for a teenage boy who disappeared on the east side of Lake Wilderness while swimming with friends at a private beach in the 25300 block of 232nd Avenue Southeast.

An off-duty Kent police officer was on scene with his family. He called 911 then dove into the lake to search for the boy. He continued attempts to recover the boy but was unable to pull him to the surface.

Dive teams from the Renton Fire Department and the King County Sheriff’s Office responded and found the teen in approximately 30 feet of water. He had been under water for about 40 minutes.

CPR was started by firefighters and King County Medic 1. The emergency responders were able to get a heartbeat back in the patient before transporting him to a Harborview Medical Center via Airlift Northwest.

• Always swim with a buddy

• Parents and other adults – supervise children when they are near water

• Swim at locations that have life guards

• Wear a life jacket that is approved by the US Coast Guard and fits well

• Take swimming lessons but never over estimate your swimming abilities

• Never mix alcohol and water activities
