A day after signing her college letter of intent Tahoma pitcher Sammii Jimenez helped her high school team with a 9-4 victory over Kentridge.
Jimenez, a senior bound for Texas Southern University, went 2-for-3 at the plate with two RBIs and an inside the park home run while scoring two runs. She’s hitting .455 at the plate this season.
She also pitched a complete game, pushing her season record to 9-1, with a 2.05 ERA.
Last week Tahoma and Kentlake took advantage of better weather to get in as many games as they could.
On one side of King County on April 22 Tahoma beat Bothell 12-7 in a wild non-league match up while Kentlake came back on the road against Mount Rainier to win 16-11.
Mount Rainier scored eight runs in the first inning which forced Kentlake to mount a comeback late in the game. The Falcons scored 15 runs, including nine in the top of the sixth, over the last three innings of the game.
Seniors Erika Smyth and Jessie Richardson led the charge offensively along with help from sophomore Kellie Nielsen.
Smyth, who bats second in the order for Kentlake, went 3-for-3 with a double and four runs scored, while Richardson was 3-for-4 with two RBIs and a double, and Nielsen was 2-for-4 with three RBIs.
Earlier in the week both teams played make up as well as scheduled games.
Tahoma beat Kentwood twice — 9-0 on April 19 and 7-4 on April 21 — while Kentlake defeated Auburn twice
Tahoma scored in each of the first three innings to a 5-0 lead on April 21 against Kentwood.
Down 7-2 in the bottom of the seventh the Conquerors appeared to be putting together a rally and hung two more runs on the board on a Hannah Feist home run before the Bears defense shut it down.
Tahoma’s Jordan Walley hit her second home run of the week in the game and ended the week with three.
Jimenez pitched a complete game and picked up another win on the mound.
The victories helped Tahoma keep pace with league rival Kentlake — the teams shared the SPSL North crown in 2010 but have not yet played this season — as the Bears improved to 9-1 in league and second place in the North.
Meanwhile, in other SPSL North action, Kentwood beat Kent-Meridian 14-3. Hannah Frost was 3-for-5 for Kentwood with two runs scored and a triple. Jayme Nies collected the win.
The victory helped the Conquerors improve to 7-4 in league and stay in contention for a playoff berth.
Kentlake’s make up game with Tahoma set for Monday night was re-scheduled for Thursday night. On Tuesday Kentlake was unable to get its second contest of the league season with Auburn Riverside in due to field conditions at Game Farm Park in Auburn.
On Wednesday Kentlake, which is 10-0, was scheduled to play Kentwood with the Tahoma game re-scheduled for Thursday, both after the Reporter’s press deadline.
