Two of the three adults were home at the time of the fire and both were able to escape from the two-story house safely. A cat was found by firefighters, overcome with smoke.
The animal was brought outside and resuscitated with an oxygen mask specifically designed for cats. The mask was one of several donated to the department by a local firefighters from the Kent Fire Department RFA and the Maple Valley Fire Department were able to limit the fire damage to the living room area, but smoke and heat damage were evident throughout the upper floor.
The fire cause is under investigation and Red Cross is assisting the residents.
