Most people, regardless of their political beliefs or stances on America’s involvement in Iraq and Afghanistan, support the troops. It goes almost without saying. But it’s said a lot at Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church, whose members also put action behind their words.
For instance, on Oct. 19, the church will host “Welcome Home, Hero,” a program honoring soldiers for their service. Military members who’ve returned from war zones will be saluted and joined at the community event by dignitaries ranging from the governor’s husband to the mayor.
And next month, the church and its Christian Friends of Soldiers Ministry will stage some more of its drives for collecting donations of personal items to send to troops still on the frontlines overseas – where there are soldiers who undoubtedly are grateful for the kindness flowing from Maple Valley.
