The South King County Latino Family Health Fair, scheduled for Sept. 6 in Auburn, is an attempt by county health authorities to reach Spanish-speaking citizens with free health screenings, health information and community resources.

The event is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Grace Community Church at 1320 Auburn Way S.

The fourth annual event, organized by the Seattle-King County Public Health Department, will feature Spanish-speaking officials who will offer free Pap tests and mammograms, and dental, vision, blood pressure and diabetes screenings. Appointments and details are available at 1-800-756-5437.

“This health fair is an opportunity for communities in south King County to connect to valuable health information and services,” said Dr. David Fleming, director of the Health Department.

The south end of the county has limited access to healthcare compared with other areas of the county, and Latinos are disproportionately affected by higher rates of adolescent births, physical inactivity, HIV and access to care, officials said.

Other organizations participating in the Health Fair include Children’s Health Initiative, the Komen Foundation, the Washington Breast and Cervical Health Program, YWCA, King County’s local hazardous waste management program, Washington Apple Health for Kids, Community Health Plan, Molina Healthcare, Washington Health Foundation’s Community Health Access Program, Swedish Medical Center, Avon Foundation and Christ Community Free Clinic.
