Rep. Geoff Simpson enters continuance agreement for domestic violence assault charge

State Rep. Geoff Simpson, D-Covington, entered a continuance agreement today, Nov. 5, in Seattle Municipal Court for the charge of gross misdemeanor assault during a domestic violence incident May 22 at Seattle Children's Hospital.

According Kimberly Mills, spokesperson for the Seattle City Attorney’s Office, Simpson entered a Stipulated Order of Continuance.

In the charging papers, Simpson is alleged to have pushed his wife when he entered the hospital room where his daughter was recovering from surgery. He is also alleged to have used the door to push his wife out of the room.

According to a release from Mills, the continuance order “is an agreement where the parties continue the case for two years, during which the defendant is on probation. At the conclusion of two years of successful probation, the misdemeanor charge is dismissed. The conditions of Simpson’s agreement include no new law violations, possess no weapons, abide by a no contact order and undergo counseling.”

Mills said by phone Simpson must follow the no contact order regarding his ex-wife.

Simpson lost his Position No. 1 seat in the state House Nov. 2 to Republican Mark Hargrove.
