The Maple Valley fire department open the bay doors Saturday of Fire Station 81 for the first open house event for the public.

The event was set up by the department firefighters’ union and the firefighters volunteered their time to host the celebration.

There were a wide-range of activities for youths and adults, including working a fire hose, rappel and Jaws of Life demonstrations and fire engine displays.

Maple Valley Police Chief Michelle Bennett put colored stickers on kids’ hands and interim Fire Chief Brad Doerflinger greeted children and adults.

There was generally plenty of smiles, food and fun for everyone, and the weather was great.
