Clothes dryer catches fire – no injuries and minimal damage to home | Maple Valley Fire and Life Safety

Maple Valley Fire and Life Safety firefighters were dispatched to a home fire at 4:42 p.m. Tuesday, August 3 in the 24000 block of 220 Place Southeast. Firefighters found the home owner outside and he stated that there was a fire inside the clothes dryer. He had used a portable fire extinguisher to try to extinguish the fire before exiting. Firefighters made entry and found large amounts of smoke on the second floor and a small fire still burning inside the dryer. Firefighters extinguished the fire using a water fire extinguisher and ventilated the smoke from the house. The home had properly functioning smoke detectors, which alerted the homeowner. No one was injured. The fire was contained to the dryer with minimal damage to the structure.

Fire prevention note

Lint traps need to be cleaned prior to dryer use and the area around the dryer and inside ductwork cleaned periodically to prevent lint build up.
