Firefighters battle two home blazes | Maple Valley Fire and Life Safety

Maple Valley Fire and Life Safety firefighters were called to fight two home fires Tuesday, Nov. 23 The first call came shortly after midnight and the home was located in the in the 22000 block of Southeast 261st Place.

The first call came shortly after midnight and the home was located in the in the 22000 block of Southeast 261st Place.

Firefighters found the exterior chimney enclosure on fire with flames extending into the walls and the attic. Firefighters removed sheetrock to access the fire in the attic and it was quickly extinguished. No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire was due to failure of the fire box around the fireplace insert. The estimated loss was $80,000.

The second came in at 11:20 a.m. and the home was located in the 27400 block of 236th Place Southeast. Firefighters found fire blowing out of the front of the garage and extending upwards to the second floor. The fire was difficult to extinguish due to the amount of combustibles in the garage including a 21-foot fiberglass boat. Firefighters quickly had the fire under control, but it took more than an hour to fully extinguish. Fire damage was mainly confined to the garage. The homeowner suffered minor burns. No other injuries were reported. The cause of the fire was accidental. The loss is estimated at $225,000.
