At the West Central District meet May 23-24 the Tahoma boys team finished in fourth and in the girls competition the Kentwood team finished sixth with the Tahoma girls a few places back in ninth.
Kentwood’s Sarah Toeaina led the way for the girls, winning the triple jump event with a jump of 37 feet, 6 inches. She also finished second in long jump with a distance of 18-7.5.
Tahoma senior Danielle Agoh came in second in triple jump with a jump of 37-1.5 and Kentwood sophomore Brittany Woke finished seventh in long jump with a distance of 16-9.5.
In the finals of the 200 meters, Tahoma freshman Olivia Ribera finished fifth behind two seniors and two juniors with a time of 25.61 seconds. Ribera went on to tie for sixth in the 400 meters with Emma Gutierrez of Central Kitsap, both with a time of 59.79.
In the 1,600 meters Tahoma junior Delaney Tiernan finished in sixth place with a time of 5:58.
Kayla Contreras, a freshman at Tahoma, came in 10th in the same event with a time of 5:14.23. The two teammates finished back to back in the 3,200 meters with Tiernan taking fourth with a time of 11:01.63 and Contreras finishing fifth with a time of 11:02.44.
Also in the 3,200, Kentwood freshman Nicole Soleim finished ninth with a time of 11:30.09.
Tahoma senior Cheyenne Haverfield finished fifth in the 100 meter hurdles in 15.45.
In the women’s 400 meter relay the Kentwood team of Aurie Taylor, Bebe Thomas, Malea Munoz and Zaria Jones finished second with a time of 49.38 seconds.
The Kentwood girls also did well in the 800 and 1,600 relays with the 800 meter team of Munoz, Thomas, Amari Leander, and Brittany Woke finishing fourth in 1:43.96. The 1,600 team of Cela Irons, Lindsay Tyler, Tessa Carlin and Leander came in seventh with a time of 4:06.96.
In shot put Kentwood sophomore Samantha LaRue finished fifth with a throw of 37-11. In the same event Kentlake freshman Crystal Auelua came in eighth with a throw of 36-3.
Senior Clair Whiting of Tahoma finished seventh in discus with a throw of 111-2.
Avalyne Peters, a sophomore at Kentlake, finished sixth in high jump with a jump of 5-0.
Fellow Falcon Lizzy Reichlinger came in fifth in pole vault with a height of 10-0.
In the men’s competition Tahoma’s Denham Patricelli won the javelin event with a throw of 200-0. Fellow Bear Alexander Cielo came in seventh in the event with a throw of 158-9.
Tahoma senior Tucker Mjelde won the men’s pole vault even with a height of 15-0.
In the 100 meters Kentwood junior Brandon Stribling placed sixth with a time of 11.22. Stribling also came in fifth in long jump with a distance of 22-4.5.
Also in long jump, Kentlake senior Vincent Menickelly came in ninth with a distance of 21-8.
Riley Campbell of Tahoma finished third in the 3,200 meters with a time of 9:30.38. He also finished eighth in the 1,600 meters with a time of 4:19.38.
Kentwood senior Terence Grady came in third in discus with a throw of 149-2. He also finished seventh in the 110-meter hurdles in 15.13.
The Tahoma 1,600 meter relay team of Tristan Houser, Graeme Schroeder, Jacob Contreras and Trey Jackson finished 5th with a time of 3:26.98.
Tahoma’s Brock Eager came in third in shot put with a throw of 51-2.5. Eager also finished fifth in discus with a throw of 145-8.
In the same event Tahoma junior Kingston Suka finished eighth with a throw of 138-7.
Kentwood senior Treybon FLoyd tied for sixth with Aaron Yewman of Skyview in high jump, both with a height of 6-0.
Next up for track and field athletes is the state competition this weekend at Mount Tahoma in Tacoma.
