Fire crews from Maple Valley and Kent responded at 8:34 this morning to a residential fire in the eastern portion of Covington. The home, which was occupied at the time, suffered damages believed to be in excess of $60,000.

The mother and two young children were all able to escape the home with no injuries. Because of the extensive smoke damage the fire will displace the family of four. Their friends and church have rallied around them to provide support and assistance.

The fire which appears to have started in the laundry room is still under investigation.
