Justin Englund, a fifth grader at Meridian Elementary, won the inaugural Cedar Heights Middle School PTA’s Elementary School Spelling Bee Saturday.

The final three participants went four rounds before it came down to Englund and Nyerere Partee, Jr., who went five rounds before the bee concluded.

Englund is in Ron Frank’s highly capable class and will compete in the Regional Scripps Spelling Bee March 24 in Seattle. He won a Kindle Fire for his efforts while Partee took home Wild Waves tickets and Janae Wade, a sixth grader at Cedar River Middle School in Maple Valley finished third, earning movie tickets.

There were 63 participants in the event for fourth through sixth graders with 24 moving onto the final round.
