MAPLE VALLEY FEMALE PREP ATHLETE OF THE YEAR: Johnson was a golden blur for Tahoma on the track and the pitch

There are many female stars in the Tahoma High athletic sky, but none shine brighter than Savannah Johnson.

The senior led the Bears soccer team into the playoffs and she put her stamp of success in multiple events during the track and field season.

Whether kicking goals, running the 200-meter sprint or flying through the air in the triple jump and long jump, Johnson has shown athletic excellence and leadership.

Johnson was named to the SPSL North First Team in soccer in the fall for her efforts on the pitch.

Tahoma girls track and field coach Jeff Brady said during the season, “Savannah Johnson will do anything for her teammates. She loves track and field and she is excited for the other girls.”

In the state track championships this year Johnson took the bronze medal in the triple jump and a fourth-place in the long jump and 200 meter.

In April Johnson traveled to the Arcadia Invitational in Arcadia, Calif., where she broke the 40 foot mark for the first time in her career in the triple jump, flying a distance of 40 feet, 6 inches.

Johnson holds three track and field school records at Tahoma. She set all three during her junior season with her name on the wall for a 25.29 time in the 200 as well as 17-6 1/4 leap in the long jump and a 38-7 1/2 in the triple jump.

Johnson will attend a college where she can study business and continue her track career.

She began her track career during middle school and rose into the national ranks between her sophomore and junior year.
