Kentlake High School culinary arts teacher Cecilia Stec has been selected as Prostart Teacher of the Year by the Washington Restaurant Association Education Foundation.

The foundation recognizes teachers who make outstanding contributions in the lives of their students.

Stec was nominated for exemplary teaching ability, passion for her craft, and her strong business acumen. Stec’s students cater school district and community events, and their exemplary work ethic and level of care in service and performance is a reflection of Stec’s passion for her job. Many of Stec’s students develop a deep interest in pursuing post-secondary careers in the culinary arts.

“I’m honored to receive this award,” said Stec. “I am passionate about my students and culinary arts. I love to see students find a career they love like I do.”

The Prostart Teacher of the Year Award is the highest form of recognition for high school food-service education professionals. The teacher of the year is selected by a committee consisting of industry professionals and educators.

“Cecilia is an example of the kind of dedicated teachers we have at Kent School District,” said Principal Joe Potts. “She’s creating a vision for her students of a successful future doing something they love.”

Along with the title, Stec is granted a seat on the WRAEF Board of Directors for one year and a $1,000 scholarship to cover costs to attend the National Restaurant Association Education Foundation Educator Excellence Awards.
