The King County Sheriff's Office is seeking a man involved in an auto theft outside of Covington where the 2 year old child was in the truck

UPDATE: Sgt. DB Gates said the suspect was apprehended after he was identified by tips from the community and was located in the King County Jail. Gates said the man had been booked by the Seattle Police Department on Jan. 18 on unrelated charges.

A sleeping 2-year-old child was found unharmed after a vehicle theft outside Covington on Jan. 16.

An unidentified man stole a pickup truck and flatbed trailer from the 28000 block of 177 Avenue Southeast at 5:20 p.m., according to the King County Sheriff’s Office.

Sgt. DB Gates, spokeswoman for the King County Sheriff’s Office, said deputies believe that, unbeknownst to the suspect, a 2-year-old child slept inside the vehicle. Gates said the child’s parent was standing directly next to the vehicle when it was stolen.

Approximately 15 minutes later the truck was found in the 32000 block of Thomas Road Southeast. Gates said the suspect fled on foot to a nearby business and convinced a customer to give him a lift out of the area.

As of Tuesday, the King County Sheriff’s Office was still seeking the man, described as having tattoos on at least one of his upper arms, believed to be involved in the theft.

Deputies asked anyone who recognized the suspect to call the King County Sheriff’s Office Communications Center at (206) 296-3311.
