The city of Maple Valley has posted warning signs on Lake Wilderness due to a blue-green algae bloom that is producing toxins that may threaten the health of people and pets if ingested. Young children and dogs are particularly at risk as the blue-green algae blows around on the water surface and forms a ribbon or band of scum at the shoreline where young children may get it in their mouths and dogs may drink it. Common symptoms may include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and eye or skin irritation. If water with visible scum is ingested, notify your doctor or veterinary and follow their instructions.
